ONLINE seminar Introduction to Foundation Paper Piecing
This is a 1 hour online seminar to explain the basics and give examples
✂️ What is Foundation Paper Piecing?
Foundation Paper Piecing involves sewing fabric onto a paper foundation (usually printed with a pattern) in a specific numerical order, using the printed lines as your stitching guide. You sew through the paper and fabric together, then tear away the paper when you're done.
🧵 How It Works — Step by Step:
Print Your Pattern – The design is printed in reverse on lightweight paper. Each section is numbered in the order you sew.
Place Fabric on the Back – Fabric pieces are placed on the non-printed side of the paper.
Sew on the Lines – You flip the paper over and stitch on the printed side, directly on the lines.
Trim and Press – After each seam, you trim the fabric and press it open.
Repeat – Keep adding pieces in numerical order.
Remove the Paper – Once the block is complete, gently tear away the paper (like a perforated sheet).
🎯 Why Quilters Love It:
Perfect points and sharp angles
Great for complex designs (like animals, letters, or mini blocks)
Helps beginners get crisp results without needing perfect cutting skills
🛠️ You’ll Need:
Foundation paper or lightweight copy paper
A printed pattern (many available online or in books)
Sewing machine with small stitch length (1.3–1.5mm)
Add-A-Quarter ruler (optional, but a favorite tool!)
Patience and maybe a seam ripper 😉
