Introduction to Foundation Paper Piecing with Bert
โ๏ธ What is Foundation Paper Piecing?
Foundation Paper Piecing involves sewing fabric onto a paper foundation (usually printed with a pattern) in a specific numerical order, using the printed lines as your stitching guide. You sew through the paper and fabric together, then tear away the paper when you're done.
๐งต How It Works โ Step by Step:
Print Your Pattern โ The design is printed in reverse on lightweight paper. Each section is numbered in the order you sew.
Place Fabric on the Back โ Fabric pieces are placed on the non-printed side of the paper.
Sew on the Lines โ You flip the paper over and stitch on the printed side, directly on the lines.
Trim and Press โ After each seam, you trim the fabric and press it open.
Repeat โ Keep adding pieces in numerical order.
Remove the Paper โ Once the block is complete, gently tear away the paper (like a perforated sheet).
๐ฏ Why Quilters Love It:
Perfect points and sharp angles
Great for complex designs (like animals, letters, or mini blocks)
Helps beginners get crisp results without needing perfect cutting skills

A printed pattern (many available online or in books)
